Please be aware that there are different classes of service. This hotels offers from a 1star - 5star hotel. My normal booking I make on hotels.com was a 1star booking. The room is a good size and the bed is comfortable. However, you should know that you will have to leave your room to use the toilet, brush your teeth, and shower. It did not seem like a problem but as a woman at night after putting on the face cream and the thought of walking out in the hallway with your night clothes on just wash your face is something to consider. Other than that it is nice. You have a walk near the river which is lovely. Tram 26 from Centraal station gets you there and get off at Riedtland stop. I would come again if need be.

This place is Awesome! Really. We went in with low expectation but were surprised. We took the 3 star room - bath area - smack in the middle of the room - but that was nice. The beds are awesome and the duvets - to die for. Make sure you do one meal at the restaurant below - we asked them to prepare sandwiches with our own combination - and they did - and they were amazing. Go to the Lloyd - never know how many chances you'll get to stay in a different kind of hotel.

This building has been used as many things in its history including a jewish detention centre, a prison and a youth detention centre. The character of the building has deliberately been maintained. The room we were given initially was undoubtedly an old cell with cream tiled walls and very basic fixtures. It was creepy. The hotel were good about offering alternatives, however, and we ended up with a much nicer (if still very quirky) room. The restaurant is not up to much, though, and definitely not value for money. Glad we were staying a bit out of town but within easy reach of the centre by efficient tram service.

The building is quite unique, inside and out - a former boarding school? The place has real character and the most comfortable beds in the world! If I could take one thing back from an enjoyable trip to Amsterdam, it would be a lifetime supply of the Lloyd's pillows!

Other reviews are right -- this hotel is a bit odd. That said, the rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful. The breakfast (not included in hotel rate) was good. The hotel is in the Eastern Docklands neighborhood which is being transformed from an older industrial park to modern urban area. There is not very much nearby the hotel. Two tram lines, however, are very close by -- you can get to Central Station and other central parts of the city in 10-15 minutes. Overall a good, reliable hotel -- even if the decor is a little different.

The coffee table was in the bathroom, which was in the middle of the room, and not shower curtain. Hope the people you go with are very close. The hotel is also too far from downtown and any historical buildings like the museums. Learn the rail system, or pay too much on taxis.

There was no privacy or ventilation. The shower had no curtain and the water splashed onto the wooden floor. The only mirror in the room was very small and placed so high above the sink that my wife could not see the top of her head. The lighting in the bedroom area was extremely poor. There was no closet in which to hang our coats. The sliding door between the bathroom and bed was clumsy and noisy. We had to drag our luggage up a steep flight of steps to get into the lobby.

I got the impression that the rooms vary greatly in this hotel. The basic room with no bath was not appealing at all. It was sterile with tile walls, no storage, and felt like a VA hospital. The hotel itself used to be a flop house so that may explain it. Also, the location is deceiving. While it is close to the train station, it is in the opposite direction from any attractions making a taxi almost a requirement to get anywhere. It would be worth it to spend more on a better hotel and avoid the taxi expense.
